Google Rebrands NotebookLM as Gemini Notebook, Adds Code Execution
Google announced on 16 July 2026 that its AI research assistant NotebookLM will be renamed Gemini Notebook. The change aligns the product with Google's Gemini family and retains its core functions for document research, summarisation and multimodal assistance. A new secure cloud‑compute environment is being rolled out, allowing each notebook to write and run code directly for data analysis and visualisation. The rollout is phased, with immediate access for AI Ultra users and broader availability for Pro users in the coming weeks. Integration with the Gemini app and the AI mode of Google Search is also planned, so notebook content can be accessed without leaving the search experience.
The rebrand also replaces the former user‑agent string "Google-NotebookLM" with "Google‑GeminiNotebook". Site owners who have hard‑coded the old identifier in firewalls or .htaccess files must update their rules before the legacy agent is retired in August 2026, or risk unintended AI scraping of their content.
