Google introduces Gemini-powered item tracking for Android
Google has introduced a new feature for Android users that utilizes the Gemini AI assistant to remember the locations of important items, such as passports or spare keys. This functionality works through the Find Hub service, allowing users to record an item's location via voice command. For example, a user can tell Gemini that they placed a passport in a bedroom drawer, and the assistant will save this information in Find Hub. Users also have the option to attach a photo of the item for better identification.
Unlike Bluetooth tracking devices such as Apple's AirTag or Samsung's SmartTag, this feature does not provide real-time movement tracking. Instead, it relies on the static location manually recorded by the user. The feature is available on devices running Android 16 or later in regions where both Gemini and Find Hub services are supported.
This update is part of a broader September release that includes other tools like Motion Assist and Guided Vision. Additionally, Google is reportedly preparing to launch a dedicated Bluetooth tracking device called Pixel Tag, expected around November 11, 2026.
