Google introduces temporary pause for Android Advanced Protection

Google is developing a new "Pause" option for Android's Advanced Protection suite. Enabled through an update to Google Play Services, the feature will let users temporarily suspend the security mode for a limited period—typically three hours—after which the protections reactivate automatically. This aims to reduce the need for a full disablement when installing apps from external sources, testing software, or using tools that conflict with the strict safeguards. The change is being examined in recent Android 16 QPR1 builds and aligns with an upcoming developer verification system slated for rollout on 30 September 2026 in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, with global expansion planned for 2027.

The temporary pause is expected to improve compatibility for power users while maintaining overall device security, offering a middle ground between strict protection and the flexibility required for sideloading and advanced debugging tasks.
