Google issues Android update warning for Canada time zone changes
Google has advised Android users in Canada to install all pending manufacturer and system updates and restart their devices ahead of November 1, 2026. This guidance follows legislative changes in several Canadian provinces and territories that will implement permanent Daylight Saving Time, meaning clocks will not be set back as they have in previous years.
The transition is expected to be complex due to regional inconsistencies. British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and the Northwest Territories will move to permanent Daylight Saving Time, while other parts of the country may follow different rules.
If devices continue to display incorrect times after updates, Google recommends enabling “Automatic time zone” and “Use location for time zone” within the device settings. Alternatively, users can manually disable the automatic time zone setting and select Canada along with the appropriate offset.
