Google launches AI-driven hotel booking in the United States

Google has officially launched a feature within its AI Mode that allows users to find, compare, and book hotels directly through its conversational search experience in the United States. This transition moves AI from a discovery tool to a transactional platform, where travelers can use natural language to view photos, rates, and reviews, and complete payments via Google Pay without leaving the interface.

The initial rollout includes major industry partners such as Booking.com, Expedia, Hilton, Marriott International, IHG, Choice Hotels, Wyndham, Priceline, Hotels.com, and Trip.com. While these large chains and online travel agencies (OTAs) are integrated, independent and boutique hotels currently lack direct participation in the transaction layer.

Google is working toward a more autonomous future using its Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), which aims to enable agentic AI to handle end-to-end tasks like flight and hotel bookings. Currently, booking partners act as the merchant of record and manage customer service. Google has stated that search results in AI Mode are ranked based on user relevance rather than advertising, though advertising options may be introduced in the future.
