Google launches AI‑powered Information Agents for AI Ultra subscribers

Google has begun rolling out a new feature called Information Agents to users of its AI Ultra subscription. The agents operate within AI Mode and continuously monitor the web for topics, events, products or opportunities that users specify, delivering updates without the need for repeated queries. The rollout, announced at Google I/O 2026, expands to all AI Mode languages and markets and is part of Google’s broader move toward an "agentic" AI future that includes the Gemini Spark personal assistant and a forthcoming Skills Marketplace for enterprise customers.

Information Agents keep a persistent, state‑aware context that can recall user preferences across sessions, enabling more proactive assistance such as alerting a user when a suitable apartment listing appears or when a favorite athlete announces a new sponsorship. The feature also introduces new privacy considerations: the agents store user‑specific data and a new "Search Services History" setting saves uploaded media (photos, voice clips, videos) by default, prompting users to review and possibly disable this media‑saving toggle.

Google positions these agents as a shift from reactive search to a background service that finds information for users, signaling a significant evolution in how online search and digital assistance are delivered.
