Google launches AI visibility reporting in Search Console
Google has released new generative artificial intelligence performance reports within Search Console, available to all websites globally as of August 31, 2026. This update allows site owners to track how often their pages appear in AI Overviews, AI Mode, and AI-driven Discover experiences.
While the reports provide data on impressions, pages, countries, devices, and temporal evolution, they do not currently include metrics for clicks, click-through rates, specific queries, or rankings. This limitation means the data tracks visibility rather than direct traffic or business conversions.
Industry experts note that this move formalizes Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) as a measurable discipline comparable to traditional SEO. However, analysts caution that the current metrics focus strictly on presence rather than return on investment.
