Google launches call‑identification and spam‑filter on Android phones

Google’s Phone app for Android includes a built‑in call‑identification and spam‑filter. The feature works on devices running Android 5.0 or later and uses Google’s database to analyze unknown numbers, flagging potential spam or fraud calls. It is enabled by default on compatible phones, but users can verify or change the setting via the Phone app → Settings → Call ID & spam.

Users may also activate automatic spam filtering, which blocks suspicious calls while keeping a record in the call history, and enable voice announcement of the caller’s name or number. To report a number as spam, users can press and hold the entry in the call log and select the report option. The tools require the Google Phone, Contacts and Messages apps to be installed and up‑to‑date.
