Google Launches Deep Think Mode for Gemini 2.5 Pro and Personal‑Intelligence Upgrade for Maps

Google has introduced a new "Deep Think" reasoning mode for its Gemini 2.5 Pro model. In independent testing the model scored 82.4 % on the GPQA Diamond benchmark—an exam‑style science test—outperforming OpenAI’s GPT‑5.5, which scored 76.3 %. Deep Think is not a separate model but a higher‑cost operating mode that makes the system spend more time reasoning before answering. The feature is currently limited to Google AI Ultra subscribers at $249.99 per month and is accessed via a closed‑beta API.

Separately, Google Maps is receiving a major update that will integrate the company's Personal Intelligence across Gmail, Photos, Workspace and other services. The upcoming "Personal Intelligence" layer will let Maps automatically surface flight, hotel and restaurant details from a user’s other Google apps and provide a more context‑aware "Ask Maps" experience. The changes are being tested in a beta build and include new menu options for users to control connected content and personalization.

Both developments extend Google’s AI strategy, aiming to improve scientific reasoning capabilities while deepening personalization in consumer services.
