Google launches Expert Intelligence to integrate Play Books with Gemini
Google has introduced Expert Intelligence, a new feature that integrates books purchased through Google Play Books with Gemini Notebook. This tool allows users to analyze their digital library directly within the notebook environment, enabling them to ask specific questions about chapters and use the content as a foundation for AI-generated responses without mixing in external sources.
The integration supports various academic and professional applications, such as creating infographics, audio summaries, and interactive quizzes. Users can contrast private notes with professional management books or cross-reference medical and scientific texts to receive technical explanations backed by direct textual citations and chapter references.
To protect copyright, Google has implemented a strict licensing system. Users must own the book in their digital library to access the feature. If a notebook is shared with collaborators, each participant must also have purchased their own copy of the book to unlock the content. The initial catalog includes over 100,000 titles from major publishers, including Penguin Random House, Bloomsbury, O’Reilly Media, and Johns Hopkins University Press.
