Google launches Gemini desktop app for Windows

Google has officially released a native Gemini desktop application for Windows 10 and Windows 11, expanding its AI presence beyond web browsers and following a previous macOS launch. The app is designed to integrate into existing workflows, allowing users to summon the assistant via a global Alt + Space keyboard shortcut. This overlay enables users to fact-check documents, summarize text, or brainstorm ideas without leaving their active application.

The application features Gemini Spark, described as a 24/7 personal AI agent capable of handling multi-step tasks. It also offers deep integration with Google Workspace services, including Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, and Calendar, allowing the AI to retrieve and synthesize information across these platforms. Additionally, the app includes creative tools such as Nano Banana for image generation and Gemini Omni for video creation.

Google emphasizes that the application is lightweight and designed to run in the background without significantly impacting system performance. It supports both x64 and ARM64 architectures. While many features are available globally, some advanced agentic capabilities and specific models may require a Google AI subscription.
