Google launches Gemini desktop app for Windows 10 and 11

Google has released a dedicated Gemini desktop application for Windows 10 and 11, expanding its AI assistant beyond the web browser. The app is designed to be lightweight and integrates directly into user workflows via the Alt + Space keyboard shortcut, which opens a floating overlay on top of active applications like Word or Excel.

Key features include seamless integration with Google Workspace services such as Gmail, Drive, Docs, and Calendar, allowing users to summarize documents or draft content without switching windows. The application supports both x64 and ARM64 architectures. Advanced capabilities include Gemini Spark, an agent designed for multi-step complex tasks, as well as image generation via Nano Banana and video generation through Gemini Omni.

While the desktop app offers enhanced convenience, some advanced features like Gemini Spark and certain video generation tools may require specific subscriptions or are subject to regional availability, such as limitations within the European Economic Area. Additionally, Google is testing new memory functions that allow the assistant to ‘remember’ specific screen areas selected by the user.
