Google launches Googlebook premium AI-powered laptop line

Googlebook Android OS premium laptops Gemini AI Henry Cavill

Google has introduced Googlebook, a new category of premium laptops designed to compete in the high-performance market. Unlike the existing Chromebook line based on ChromeOS, Googlebook utilizes an operating system built on the Android kernel, allowing for native Android app support and seamless integration with Android smartphones.

Major hardware manufacturers including Acer, Asus, HP, Lenovo, and Dell are producing the first generation of devices. These laptops feature advanced AI capabilities powered by Gemini, along with proprietary tools such as Antigravity for AI-driven productivity and Rambler for voice-to-text conversion. Some models will utilize Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite chips, while others will use Intel chipsets.

To promote the new line, Google has partnered with actor and producer Henry Cavill. Cavill is currently using a Googlebook to develop a new video game, which is expected to be revealed in November 2026. This collaboration aims to demonstrate the hardware's creative and technical potential.

While the transition marks a significant shift toward an Android-based desktop experience, some early reports note that the ecosystem is still maturing, with potential issues regarding app compatibility and peripheral support that Google intends to address through regular OS updates. Additionally, the brand name has faced some scrutiny due to search engine confusion with the Google Books service.
