Google launches Home Speaker featuring Gemini AI

Google has released the new Google Home Speaker, marking the debut of the Gemini AI assistant in a smart speaker format. The device is designed to facilitate more natural conversations compared to previous generations and serves as a central hub for smart home automation through its integration of Matter and its role as a Thread Border Router.

The hardware features a compact, minimalist fabric-wrapped design available in Porcelain and Lichen Green. Technical specifications include 360-degree omnidirectional sound, three long-range microphones, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and USB-C power delivery. While the device offers improved conversational capabilities, reviews note that the AI can occasionally be slow or prone to hallucinations, and the audio quality is better suited for casual listening than high-fidelity music.
