Google launches Tap to Send for Android and iPhone data sharing
Google has introduced 'Tap to Send', a new feature designed to simplify the sharing of photos, videos, and contacts between devices. Utilizing a combination of Near Field Communication (NFC) and Quick Share, the technology allows users to exchange data by simply bringing two supported phones close together or tapping them.
The feature is intended to improve interoperability between different mobile ecosystems, specifically targeting easier data exchange between Android and iPhone users. This move is seen as a response to Apple’s AirDrop service.
Initial rollout includes the Pixel 11 series and select Samsung devices, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8. The feature will also be available on Pixel devices dating back to the Pixel 6 series. Google plans to expand support to additional Android smartphones throughout 2026. Additionally, the OnePlus 15 is noted as already supporting data exchange with iPhones via Quick Share.
