Google has opened its personalized Gemini Nano Banana image‑generation feature to all eligible users in the United States at no cost. The tool, previously available only to paid Gemini Plus, Pro or Ultra subscribers, creates images by drawing on personal data from Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube and search history through Google’s Personal‑Intelligence platform. The service is opt‑in, subject to age restrictions (users 13 + can create images, 18 + can edit) and usage limits for free accounts.

The rollout excludes the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom because current GDPR and EU AI‑Act rules prohibit the required processing of personal data for this purpose. Google cites compliance concerns as the reason for the regional block while continuing to expand the feature in the United States.

The move is part of a broader set of Gemini updates, including new video‑analysis capabilities and integration with Chrome, but the primary focus of the announcement is the free, personalized image‑generation service for U.S. users.
