Google Maps adds 3D buildings to Android Auto, but German law bans radar‑warning use

Google Maps for Android Auto receives a major visual upgrade called “Immersive Navigation.” The feature renders buildings in realistic 3‑D and makes obstructing structures transparent, giving drivers clearer context for navigation. According to Android Police, the update is not tied to a specific Android Auto version, so it should be available to most users.

In Germany, the use of Google Maps as a speed‑camera (blitzer) warning tool is prohibited by § 23 Abs. 1c StVO. Drivers caught using such warnings can face a €75 fine and a point on their licence. While the radar‑warning function is unavailable in Germany, it is permitted in several other European countries such as Spain and the Netherlands, though restrictions vary elsewhere. Google Maps does allow users to report accidents, traffic jams and speed‑camera locations in over 40 countries, but it does not provide a setting to enable radar warnings directly.
