Google Maps adds speedometer to Android Auto
Google Maps is rolling out a speedometer feature for Android Auto that displays both the vehicle’s current speed and the posted speed limit directly on the navigation map. The beta version, identified as 26.29.02.946673643, shows the tachometer in a small overlay in the corner of the screen, allowing drivers to see speed information without switching displays.
The functionality mirrors a similar speedometer that has been available on Apple CarPlay for several years and on the Google Maps mobile app. Early reports of the feature surfaced on Reddit and were confirmed by 9to5Google, noting that the rollout is currently limited to a subset of beta testers. Users can access the preview by joining Google’s Android Auto beta program, though a wider public release date has not yet been announced.
