Google Maps defaults to fuel‑saving routes; disable to get fastest navigation

Google Maps has quietly changed its routing algorithm to prioritize fuel‑efficient paths over the quickest ones. The new default favors stable speeds and minimal braking, which can add 10‑15 minutes to trips, especially for commuters, delivery drivers, or anyone on a tight schedule.

Users can revert to the fastest‑route option by opening the app, tapping the profile icon, selecting Settings → Navigation, and turning off the "Prioritize fuel‑saving routes" toggle. After disabling, the app will again suggest the quickest routes for all future journeys.
