Android Auto may soon drop support for Android 10 devices
Android Auto users are reporting warnings that their devices will soon no longer be supported. These alerts suggest that Google may be raising the minimum operating system requirement to Android 11. This change would impact millions of users still running Android 10, including owners of devices like the Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy Note 9, and Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact, which cannot be officially updated further.
While Google’s official support pages currently list Android 9 as the minimum for wired connections and Android 11 for wireless, the appearance of these warnings on wired connections suggests a move toward a unified Android 11 requirement.
Separately, technical issues have been reported regarding the integration of Google Gemini and Google Maps within the platform. Some Pixel users have experienced Google Maps freezing, flickering, or displaying graphical artifacts on Android Auto displays. Additionally, code analysis reveals that Google is preparing a new visual interface for Gemini in Android Auto, featuring a wider, more intense light animation across the screen based on the Neural Expressive design language.
