Google Maps introduces McLaren F1 driving avatar

Google Maps has introduced a temporary 3D driving avatar featuring a McLaren Formula 1 car. This update serves as a celebration of the partnership between Google and McLaren Racing, specifically timed around the United States Grand Prix events in Las Vegas and Austin.

Users can replace the standard blue navigation arrow with the McLaren racing car by navigating to Settings, selecting 'Your vehicles', and choosing 'Driving avatar'. The feature is available on smartphones and is compatible with vehicle infotainment systems via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The rollout is being managed via server-side updates, meaning availability may vary by user. The McLaren avatar is scheduled to remain available until November 23, 2026.
