Google Maps adds AI food ordering, hotel booking and personal intelligence
Google announced a major upgrade to its Ask Maps feature in Google Maps, embedding the Gemini AI model to give the app agentic capabilities. The update lets users order food, book hotels and find event tickets directly within the map interface. Food ordering is launched in the United States with initial partners Square and Toast, and Uber Eats will be added later. Hotel searches return real‑time prices and availability, while event queries provide ticket links.
Ask Maps also introduces Personal Intelligence, an optional opt‑in connection to a user’s Gmail and Calendar that enables context‑aware suggestions such as flight times or restaurant reservations. The assistant can remember prior conversations, allowing users to resume planning without starting over. A new transit widget shows live bus, train and ferry delays. The agentic features are rolling out first in the U.S., with later expansion to Canada and other markets worldwide.
The rollout is optional and off by default; users must enable the features in settings. Google says the changes are intended to turn Maps from a navigation tool into a broader personal assistant for everyday tasks.
