Google Maps launches user-driven annual gastronomic guide
Google Maps has launched a new annual gastronomic guide that identifies popular restaurants and culinary trends based on user data across 10 global cities. Unlike traditional guides such as the Michelin Guide, this initiative relies on millions of user reviews, ratings, and route requests to determine popularity.
The platform identified several significant food trends through its data analysis. In New York, mentions of frozen yogurt grew by 320%, while Seattle saw a 136% increase in searches for dosa. Other notable trends include a 216% rise in cheeseburger mentions in Tokyo and a 114% increase in hojicha interest in London. The guide aims to combine AI-driven recommendations with existing user reviews to assist travelers in discovering trending local flavors.
