Google Maps adds travel shortcuts and less intrusive Android Auto alerts

Google Maps highlighted a set of travel features to help users save data and navigate more easily. Users can download whole city maps for offline use, mark their parking spot, explore nearby restaurants and attractions, customize routes to avoid tolls, ferries or highways, add multiple stops on a single trip, check typical traffic patterns for better timing, share real‑time location with trusted contacts, and use Street View or saved lists to plan visits.

In Android Auto, Google redesigned incident notifications so they no longer cover the route or estimated arrival time. The alerts appear briefly over the ETA, can be dismissed with a tap or disappear automatically, and only shift surrounding shortcuts slightly. The change is being rolled out to millions of drivers and varies with screen size, aiming to reduce distraction while keeping safety information visible.
