Google Maps satellite view impacts battery life and data usage

Using the satellite view mode in Google Maps can significantly increase mobile data consumption and accelerate phone battery depletion. This is particularly relevant for users who rely on the app for long-duration navigation, such as during road trips.

To conserve energy and data, users can switch from satellite view to the default map mode. The default mode focuses on essential navigation information, including street names, routes, and locations, without the high resource demands of satellite imagery. Users can change this setting by selecting the map type icon in the top right corner of the Google Maps interface and choosing ‘Default’ instead of ‘Satellite’.
