Google Maps setting may affect travel time optimization

Google Maps includes a setting called ‘Prefer fuel-efficient routes’ that may impact travel time. While designed to reduce fuel consumption and environmental emissions, this feature can suggest slower routes compared to the fastest available options.

To optimize Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA), users can disable this feature on Android or iPhone by navigating to Settings, then Navigation, and toggling off ‘Prefer fuel-efficient routes’ under Route options. Google Maps notes that it defaults to fuel-efficient suggestions when travel times between different route options are similar.
