Google Maps settings can reduce smartphone battery consumption

To mitigate high battery consumption during continuous GPS use, Google Maps users can utilize specific settings to improve energy efficiency. For users with Google Pixel 10 series or newer devices featuring OLED technology, a simplified navigation view is available. This mode reduces power consumption by replacing 3D elements and complex color palettes with a schematic black-and-white interface, allowing black pixels to remain completely off.

For other Android and iPhone users, the most effective method to conserve battery is using the ‘ glanceable directions’ feature. This allows route tracking to be delegated to the lock screen, reducing the need for the main display to remain active during long journeys.
