Google Maps updates offline capabilities and AI search features

Google Maps offers various functionalities that remain accessible without an internet connection, provided users have previously downloaded maps for the specific area. Offline mode allows users to view addresses, points of interest, and business operating hours and ratings. It also supports turn-by-turn navigation directions and access to previously bookmarked areas.

However, certain features are unavailable in offline mode, including real-time traffic updates, public transit information, bicycle navigation, and the ability to access new user reviews.

Additionally, Google is testing new features for its AI-driven conversational search tool, Ask Maps. Analysis of the application's code suggests that Google is developing the ability to share entire AI-generated conversations via public links. This would allow users to share interactive itineraries and recommendations with others. Google is also reportedly working on a visual redesign to integrate Ask Maps more closely with the traditional search bar.
