Google Meet expands to all Android Auto users with audio‑only car integration

Google Meet is now rolling out widely to every Android Auto user, letting drivers join scheduled meetings directly from their car dashboard. The feature remains audio‑only; the phone’s camera stays off and video functions such as Hand Raise, Q&A and polls are unavailable while driving. When a call starts, the phone automatically switches to an “On‑the‑Go” mode that enlarges buttons and disables distracting interactions. The Android Auto app shows a “Scheduled” tab for upcoming meetings and a “History” tab for recent contacts, but meetings must be preset in the calendar to appear.

The broader release follows a limited April rollout and applies to all devices, though work‑profile accounts are not supported. Users may need to restart the Meet app on their phone before it works in the car. This expansion is part of Google’s push to bring its collaboration tools to vehicle infotainment systems, complementing other recent updates to Google’s messaging apps.
