Google, Meta, and Linux Mint announce major technology updates
Google has launched Gemini 4 Argon, a new frontier model available via API and to Pro and Ultra subscribers. The model is designed to compete with existing high-end models in fields such as coding, science, and law. Additionally, Google announced that standard account holders can now use AI Studio to build personal Android apps for free without coding experience. These apps will run on the user’s device via a private section of Google Play.
Meta is expanding its AI-driven “Your Algorithm” feature from Instagram to Facebook and Facebook Reels. This allows users to manage content topics and adjust recommendations in real time. Meta is also increasing its use of large language models to interpret user intent and context for better ranking.
In the Linux ecosystem, the Mint team announced Linux Mint 27 “Adrien,” which is targeted for a Christmas 2026 release. The project is shifting from a six-month release cycle to a yearly cadence and will discontinue point releases. Linux kernel developers are also planning to remove the “Assisted-by” AI disclosure tag following a consensus among maintainers.
