Google Pay launches Gemini AI assistant and Flex SBI Card in India
Google has added a Gemini‑powered conversational AI called Ask Google Pay to its Google Pay app in India. The feature is opt‑in, supports text and voice queries in ten Indian languages, and can analyse a user’s transaction history and CIBIL credit‑report data to provide spending breakdowns, savings tips, tailored offers and explanations of financial concepts such as SIPs, credit scores and tax regimes. Google says the assistant is for educational purposes only, keeps user data within the Google Pay ecosystem and does not use it to train its models.
At the same time, Google announced the Google Pay Flex SBI Card, a co‑branded credit card issued with SBI Card and available on both RuPay and Visa networks. The card can be applied for digitally inside the Google Pay app, offers paperless onboarding, EMI conversion, and a rewards programme where one Star equals ₹1. Users can earn up to eight Stars per ₹500 spent after meeting spending milestones, with an annual cap of 18,000 Stars. The card carries a joining and annual renewal fee of ₹499, which is waived if the cardholder spends at least ₹1 lakh in the preceding year.
