Google Photos 7.85 update introduces shimmer toggle and AI camera shortcut

Google has released version 7.85 of its Google Photos app for Android. The update adds a new on/off "Show shimmer" setting that lets users disable the visual outline that appears around people or objects in photos.

The Settings screen has been refreshed with a Material 3 Expressive redesign, applying container‑style layouts to main sections such as Backup and Preferences while other pages retain the previous design. A new floating‑action camera button provides quick access to the device camera for AI‑driven features like Remix and Photo‑to‑Video, allowing users to capture input without leaving the app.
