Google Photos adds redaction tool and disables annoying glare overlay

Google is testing a new editing option in Google Photos called “Redact.” The feature, found in the app’s code, would let users select portions of a picture—such as addresses, codes, receipts or other personal data—and hide them before sharing, offering a cleaner alternative to manual cropping or covering.

In a separate update, Google Photos now lets users turn off the white‑flash overlay that appears around objects and people when the app suggests creating stickers. The setting, called “Show flash,” can be disabled in the app’s menu, stopping the brief reflective effect while preserving the ability to use the sticker function when desired.
