Google Pixel receives icon redesign and Screenshots app update

Google is implementing several software updates for its Pixel device lineup. A new design overhaul for system app icons is facing criticism from users and tech analysts. The update replaces various edge-to-edge vector shapes with uniform white circular backdrops for apps such as Clock, Calculator, Camera, Weather, Recorder, and Settings. Critics have described the new look as ‘blobby and incoherent,’ noting that the white badges can reduce visual sharpness and create issues with visual hierarchy, particularly for users on dark mode.

Separately, Google is updating the Pixel Screenshots app to improve library management. The latest version introduces new filtering capabilities, allowing users to sort screenshots by date range, collections, and specific source applications. These tools are intended to complement the existing text search functionality, making it easier to navigate large libraries of captured images.
