Google Pixel to Hide Search Bar in Upcoming Android 17 Launcher Update

Google confirmed that the persistent search bar in the Pixel Launcher will be hideable on its flagship devices. The change, visible in the Android 17 beta, will let users remove the bar from the home screen, freeing space for widgets and icons. Google plans to roll the feature out with the quarterly Pixel Drop updates QPR1 or QPR2, expected in the third or fourth quarter of 2026, initially on devices such as the Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 8 and their lower‑end siblings. The move follows years of user requests and contrasts with Samsung’s earlier customisation options.

The adjustment also disables the "At a Glance" live display, a feature that has been removable for some time, further enhancing home‑screen flexibility for Pixel owners.
