Google Pixel Watch 5 earns high repairability score from iFixit
The Google Pixel Watch 5 has received a high repairability score of 9 out of 10 from iFixit. Unlike many smartwatches that rely on heavy adhesives, the Pixel Watch 5 utilizes a design similar to a dive watch, employing a latch and reusable O-ring gaskets to maintain water resistance.
Teardowns of the 45 mm model reveal that the device can be opened using Torx screws rather than a heat gun. The internal design features color-coded screws to guide users through the disassembly process, specifically making battery replacement more accessible. The 45 mm model includes a 465 mAh battery, a slight increase over the previous generation.
While the display removal process remains somewhat complex, involving multiple screws and a connector, Google supports the hardware by providing repair instructions and selling individual replacement parts. The device is powered by the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated chip and includes 3 GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 64 GB of eMMC storage.
