Google posts Q2 revenue rise while EU mandates Android data sharing
Alphabet reported its second‑quarter results, showing total revenue of $119.8 billion, up 24 % year‑over‑year. Google Search & Other advertising generated $63.3 billion, a 17 % increase, and Google Cloud revenue surged 82 % to $24.8 billion with an operating profit of $8.8 billion. The company posted its first quarterly negative free cash flow, spending $5.9 billion more on capital expenditures than it generated, and its shares fell about 6 % after the release.
Separately, the European Commission issued two binding decisions requiring Google to open eleven key Android functions to rival AI agents and to share certain search‑data with competitors. The regulatory moves add pressure on Google as it continues large‑scale investment in AI‑driven infrastructure.
The earnings highlight strong growth in cloud services but also mark a shift in cash flow dynamics, while the EU actions signal increased scrutiny of Google’s platform dominance.
