Google rebrands NotebookLM as Gemini Notebook

Google has rebranded its AI-powered research and note-taking tool, NotebookLM, to Gemini Notebook. The name change is intended to reflect the tool's deeper integration within the broader Google Gemini ecosystem. While the name has changed, the core functionality remains intact, and existing user notebooks are preserved.

Gemini Notebook functions as a personalized knowledge base where users can upload various sources, including PDFs, Google Docs, websites, and YouTube videos. The tool allows users to interact with these sources through a chat interface and utilize the Studio panel to generate diverse resources such as audio overviews, video overviews, infographics, and slides.

For educators and students, the tool offers several advanced learning capabilities through specific prompting strategies. These include creating comprehensive study guides, generating practice exams (multiple choice, short answer, and essay), and utilizing a “Teach Back” method to verify conceptual understanding. Additionally, the “Audio Overview” feature can transform study notes into podcast-style audio discussions for auditory learning.
