Google Recorder enables direct file access on Pixel devices

Google has updated its Recorder app for Pixel devices, allowing audio recordings to be accessed directly by other applications and file managers. Previously, recordings were isolated within the app's sandbox, requiring users to manually share or save files to move them elsewhere.

With the update to version 4.2.20260823, a new setting titled ‘Allow recordings in other apps’ has been introduced. This feature is enabled by default, meaning users do not need to take manual action to grant access. Once active, audio files are stored in a dedicated folder named ‘Recordings,’ making them visible to the system's file manager.

The update applies to both new recordings and existing archives. The change has already begun appearing on various Pixel models, including the Pixel 9 and Pixel 6a.
