Google rolls out Android 17 security patch and beta updates for Pixel and Xiaomi phones

Google has begun distributing the August 2026 security patch for Android 17 to a wide range of Pixel devices, including the Pixel 8, 8 Pro, 8a, 9 series and the newer Pixel 10 line. The update adds a single extra security fix and addresses issues such as game‑app crashes, GPU performance and touch‑panel responsiveness.

In parallel, Google released Android 17 QPR 1 Beta 8, which fixes more than 30 bugs – notably audio static caused by a buffer‑management flaw, NFC regression, fingerprint authentication problems and a connectivity issue with the Pixel Tablet speaker dock. The beta is available for Pixel 6 series and newer models through the Android Beta Program.

Google also opened the QPR 2 Beta 2 preview for Pixel 6a and later devices, while ending support for the older Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in this branch. Xiaomi became the first OEM after Google to ship a stable Android 17 build on its Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra flagships, though the 17 Pro variants are excluded. The rollout is global, with updates arriving in stages over the coming weeks.
