Google releases Android 17 August 2026 update for Pixel phones
Google began rolling out the Android 17 August 2026 security update to its Pixel lineup on 5 August 2026. The update is available for Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a and the newer Pixel 10 series. It adds one extra security fix and addresses several stability issues, notably a crash in certain gaming apps, general GPU‑performance improvements and a problem that can cause the touch panel to become unresponsive under specific conditions.
The rollout does not include the older Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 7a devices, which will no longer receive this build. Google has also released Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8, fixing more than 30 bugs such as audio static, an NFC regression, fingerprint‑authentication faults and a connection issue with the Pixel Tablet speaker dock. In parallel, Android 17 QPR2 Beta 2 was made available for Pixel 6a and newer devices, while support for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro was dropped.
Separately, Xiaomi became the first OEM after Google to ship a stable Android 17 build for its flagship phones. The Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra receive the update, with the former using an 8 GB build and the latter a 10 GB build; the Xiaomi 17 Pro variants are excluded.
