Google releases August 2026 Android system updates

Google has released the August 2026 system updates for Android, including significant changes to Google Play services (v26.33) and the Google Play Store (v52.9).

A key highlight of the update is the introduction of support for Googlebook, allowing users to access their phone’s apps from the device. This feature is expected to be a central component of the Googlebook hardware scheduled for release later this year.

Additionally, the Google Play Store is introducing App Bundles, which enable users to discover and install curated sets of complementary apps immediately after downloading a primary application. Other updates include new developer features for utilities and device connectivity across various platforms including Phone, Auto, TV, and Wear OS. On mobile devices, the Play Store update also introduces a chip on Home and Search to highlight quality apps on large-screen devices and allows users to watch app and game video highlights within Ask Play.
