Google releases Gemini 3.8 Flash and cybersecurity-focused model

Google has released Gemini 3.8 Flash, its third Flash series model in six weeks. Described by the company as its ‘most intelligent workhorse model yet’, the update is an iteration built on the existing 3.7 Flash architecture.

Alongside the standard model, Google introduced Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, a specialized version designed for vulnerability detection and automated patching. This security-focused variant is available to vetted defenders through the Fairwind Program.

On technical benchmarks, Gemini 3.8 Flash shows improvements in software engineering and terminal-based coding. For instance, it scored approximately 71% on the DeepSWE v1.1 benchmark, an increase from 65.3% in the previous version. However, some industry observers note that the model still trails behind competitors like Claude Opus 5 in specific reasoning and coding tasks.

Pricing for the model is set at $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens, with rates scheduled to double on January 1, 2027.
