Google restructures Gemini AI access and subscription tiers

Google is implementing significant changes to its Gemini AI service, restructuring model access across various subscription tiers effective October 9, 2026. Free users will lose access to the Flash and Pro models, being restricted solely to the lightweight Gemini Flash-Lite model.

Paid subscribers will also see shifts: the $4.99/month AI Plus plan will lose access to the Pro model, leaving users with only Flash and Flash-Lite. Conversely, the $19.99/month AI Pro plan will gain access to the ‘Deep Think’ reasoning mode, previously reserved for higher-tier Ultra users.

In the enterprise sector, Google Cloud has introduced a unified Gemini agent designed to act autonomously across web, mobile, and desktop environments. This agent can manage knowledge work, generate code, and integrate directly into Google Workspace and third-party applications like Slack.

Additionally, Google is expanding accessibility features, such as ‘Simple Guide’ for Gemini Live to assist elderly users with smartphone operations via voice and camera, and the ‘Auto Browse’ feature in Chrome, which allows AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in India to navigate websites and complete tasks like research and form filling.
