Google releases major firmware update for Pixel Buds
Google has released a major firmware update (version 6.144) for several models in its Pixel Buds lineup, including the Pixel Buds Pro, Pixel Buds Pro 2, and Pixel Buds 2a.
Key features include a new live translation capability that allows users to initiate translations via a tap on the earbud using Google Translate, reducing the need to interact with a smartphone. For users with a Pixel Watch, the update introduces automatic sleep detection; when the watch detects the user has fallen asleep, the earbuds will automatically pause audio, mute notifications, and disable touch gestures.
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 specifically receives an exclusive enhancement: dynamic active noise cancellation (ANC). This feature adjusts noise reduction levels based on how securely the earbuds fit in the ear. Additionally, users can now use Gemini voice commands to adjust settings such as the equalizer, noise cancellation, and touch controls. Some features, such as the ‘Tap to Mute’ microphone function during calls, require a paired Pixel smartphone to operate.
