Google releases October 2026 Play System updates

Google has deployed its October 2026 system updates via Google Play services. A significant addition to the ‘Find My Device’ (Localiser) feature includes NFC tag support, allowing users to view item details and settings by tapping their phone against a tag. The update also introduces separation alerts, which notify users if they leave a tracked object behind at locations such as stations or offices.

Other enhancements include updates to Google Wallet, which can now scan receipts for collections and provide clearer merchant names in transaction notifications. The Play Store has also been updated with ‘Ask Play,’ a feature that summarizes user reviews to answer specific questions about applications.

Notably, some Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra users have reported receiving an update with a timestamp of January 1, 2027, appearing significantly ahead of the current date. Additionally, the latest update removes ‘Find My Device’ functionality from certain Android laptops and Googlebook devices.
