Google removes Shopping product carousels in the EEA
Google has fundamentally restructured its Shopping search results within the European Economic Area (EEA), leading to a near-total disappearance of product carousels and grids. The company cited compliance with the Digital Markets Act as the reason for these changes, which affect all EU member states as well as Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.
Data from the Dutch analysis platform Productrise indicates that product carousels saw declines of 90 to 100 percent within a few days of the change. While visibility has plummeted in the EEA, search results in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia remain unchanged.
The shift replaces direct product tiles with lists of shops and price comparison services, and the dedicated Shopping tab has also disappeared. Industry experts suggest this change will disproportionately impact smaller online retailers who relied on organic visibility through these product blocks, potentially shifting importance back to organic category pages.
