Google to End Assistant on Android, Replace with Gemini AI
Google announced that the Google Assistant will be discontinued on Android phones and tablets on 4 September 2026. The service will be permanently removed and users will be automatically migrated to Gemini, Google’s generative‑AI platform that will become the system‑level assistant across Android devices.
The migration covers smartphones, tablets, Wear OS watches, compatible headphones and Android Auto‑enabled cars. Google Home speakers, smart displays, Google TV and vehicles with built‑in Google remain on the older Assistant for now. Users will receive email notices and will not be able to opt out after the cutoff date.
