Google resolves global outage affecting Home and Nest devices

Google has confirmed the resolution of a widespread outage affecting Google Home and Nest smart devices. For approximately twelve hours, users globally reported that smart speakers and screens were unresponsive to voice commands. Affected hardware included Nest Hubs, Google Home Mini/Nest Mini speakers, and third-party compatible devices such as the Lenovo Smart Clock.

During the incident, many users experienced frozen screens or infinite loading icons. While voice commands and automated routines failed, users were able to manually control some devices via the Google Home smartphone application. The breadth of the malfunction suggested a server-side infrastructure issue rather than a hardware-specific defect.

Google addressed the situation via a Reddit forum, stating, ‘We have resolved a problem affecting various functions on Google Home and Nest devices,’ and offered apologies to those impacted.
