Google restricts Meta's use of Gemini AI model

Google has placed limits on Meta's access to its Gemini artificial‑intelligence models after Meta's demand for compute capacity exceeded what Google could provide. The restriction affects Meta's Gemini projects and also impacts other Google Cloud customers facing similar capacity constraints. Google cited the high token consumption of Meta's workloads and noted that even with billions of dollars invested in data‑center infrastructure, the rapid growth in AI demand is outpacing available compute resources.

The move underscores a broader industry challenge: developing and running large AI models now requires more infrastructure than many cloud providers can reliably supply. Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted the tension between strong revenue growth in Google Cloud and the operational limits that are beginning to curb that growth.
