Google Review Platform Expands Role and Starts Screening Business Replies
Google remains the primary source for local business reviews, with 46% of diners checking the platform first and a strong influence on restaurant traffic and sales. New data show that businesses with higher Google ratings see measurable growth, prompting owners to seek more reviews and manage responses carefully.
Google has now added a screening step for business-owner replies on Search and Maps. Replies receive a status of pending, approved, or rejected, and can be delayed or blocked if they contain keyword stuffing, generic automated text, promotional links, or phone numbers. The change targets home‑service providers and other multi‑location businesses that often rely on template responses, aiming to keep review sections authentic and free of spam. Owners are advised to write human‑focused replies that reference specific customer experiences.
